Aidha’s 13th Anniversary Carnival Party and Open House

Happy 13th Anniversary Aidha! On Sunday, 7th July 2019, we celebrated 13 years of women empowerment, inspiring moments and a whole lot of amazing memories with the Aidha community. The Open House kicked off at 11am and went on until 12.30pm where we invited non-Aidha FDWs and Aidha alumni to share about their experience in Aidha. After that, we started the carnival with a line-up of fun game stations such as Gotta Be Patient, Bucket Head, Pongstacle and Defying Gravity. And we also prepared a handprint mural wall and Photo Booth so they can be a little creative, stick your hands in paint and take photos with their friends! Download all your pictures from the photo booth here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/BffVnNh2DH4gqk6aA

Ms Jacqueline Loh and an Aidha alumni, Ms Gleia Mae Duenas also wished great things for Aidha’s future and for the Aidha community. We ended it off with some powerful and energetic Dance Fitness session, led by Ms. Sari Marsden! We also gave away some prizes and vouchers for the winners of the games. Aidha students cooked up a storm and contributed to the wonderful spread with not one, but two grand cake cutting ceremonies to commemorate the day. We at Aidha are ever so grateful to all our friends who joined hands to make this day a memorable one not only for us but for all who attended. A big shout out to our superstar summer interns! Thanks, Bianca Ancot (Gabbie), Hajin Hyun, Hannah Wong, Hui Lyn Ang and Kanako Anzai! Finally, a big thanks to people who make these moments last forever – @wadephotographysg and Aman Chadha.

Trekking @MacRitchie Reservoir

We ended June with a bang! On Sunday, 30th June, we had over 30 Foreign Domestic Workers (FDWs) set out with a group of Aidha ambassadors and volunteers to trek along the Macritchie Reservoir trail. We gathered at the Windsor Nature Park point at 9AM for a fun, active and healthy end to the long week! The group was led by an alumni, Armi Sampani who led us from warming up, the trek and then making sure we did our stretches in the end. The fun-group of FDWs get their spirits high all the way along with selfies, singalongs, chits chats and more. The Tree-top walk was the highlight of the trip. The trek ended with a delicious picnic which included sticky rice with mango, tuna sandwiches, fried rice and spaghetti. A big thanks to the Aidha ambassadors and team for making sure the trek was a success.

Intro Workshop with Women of Shakti

On Sunday,2nd June, Aidha organised a Personal and Financial Goals Workshop for Women of Shakti, a HOME subsidiary and the 1st and only women empowerment group set up by and for South Asian (Tamil and Malayalee) domestic workers based in Singapore. The intent of the workshop was to discuss and educate the group present on managing their finances better. Aidha members kicked off by stressing the importance of setting financial goals and then slowly yet steadily working towards it. We shared the difference between having a fixed vs growth mindset and gave them pointers on how they can effectively achieve the goals they set for themselves. One of the main things we focused on was the importance of communicating the goals with their families and trying to make them understand the importance of it for mutual benefit. We wrapped up the session with a money management game that revisited the points discussed in the session. We thank Women of Shakti for inviting us. Especially Aarthi from Women of Shakti for her help in translating the session, and Melinda & Mathilde for facilitating the session.

Aidha Tour de Singapore 2019

On Sunday, 12th May 2019, Aidha and a team of over 100 cyclists, consisting of partners from Anza, Barclays, Cargill, Duff & Phelps, Aidha volunteers and Aidha students, cycled for Aidha’s Tour de Singapore in the OCBC Cycle 2019! The event helped us raise awareness for the empowerment of FDWs and lower-income women and helped us reach the fundraising goal of $30,000 in support of Aidha’s life-changing financial literacy and empowerment programmes.

In the morning, our cyclists met at 4am to get ready for the ride and during the event, our wonderful team of volunteers helped with logistics and cheering on the riders. After everyone crossed the finish line, we met for a coffee, and our CEO, Ms. Jacqueline Loh, thanked the cyclists for their support. One of our alumni’s, Ms. Vita, also spoke about her life-changing experience at Aidha and how it positively impacted her life.

Everyone’s efforts helped us meet our fundraising goals, with a special thanks to to the entire team – cyclists, cheerers, and supporters, and corporate sponsors. We can confidently say this year’s race was a huge success for Aidha as we are awarded as the Longest Distance award at the OCBC Cycle 2019, hitting 3,402 km!

The best fundraisers for this campaign also won first and second prize! In first place were Prerana Bhounsle and Hanna Safdar, who raised a total of $1100. They received a nice bottle of wine, a Sainte-Agathe 2016 Domaine Georges Vernay, sponsored by The Straits Wine Company and a framed photograph from Aidha’s last photography exhibition. In second place was Alan Fowler, who raised a total of $815! He received two bottles of wine from Aidha for his hard work and dedication.

Our other amazing sponsors, Procter & Gamble, also supported us with the goodie bags, including haircare and face care products making the event that extra bit special!
