Meet Purwanti, an inspiring artist and dedicated lifelong learner from Indonesia, as well as a migrant domestic worker who has spent the last decade working in Singapore. A recent Module 2 graduate at Aidha, she is working towards supporting her son’s education and building a stable future. Alongside these goals, she has pursued her passions for photography and poetry, which led her to become a selected exhibitor in the Unspoken Life Photography Exhibition 2024.

Purwanti’s love for the arts blossomed with encouragement from her employer, who suggested she explore creative outlets on her weekends off. She began dabbling in photography, capturing images that reflect her perspective on life, resilience, and joy.
“It was an incredible experience. I joined Aidha’s Photo Walk at Gardens by the Bay, and it helped me channel a talent I hadn’t tapped into before,” she shared, reflecting on the meaningful connections and confidence she has gained.
Purwanti’s artistic journey is truly inspiring, as she believes in the emotional and mental benefits of creativity. “Photography and poetry both help reduce stress by allowing us to express our emotions and thoughts. Sometimes, we can even confide through them,” she shares. Her creative practices bring joy while supporting her mental well-being.

In addition to photography, Purwanti has also dabbled in poetry. She shares her voice through poetry as part of the Migrant Writers of Singapore’s Carnival of Poetry recently, performing pieces she has written herself. Her poetry, like her photography, captures her unique journey – blending personal experiences with a love for self-expression. She is excited to bring her passions together, and she is even considering combining photography and poetry in future projects.
Purwanti’s journey exemplifies the power of creativity and resilience. From building her own house to running a small stationery shop back home, she has always been driven by dreams of growth and stability. “It’s never too late to learn,” she shares. “My goal is to become a better person every day!”
By embracing her creative side and focusing on mental and physical well-being, Purwanti hopes to inspire others to explore their talents and discover new ways to grow.
