At Aidha, we believe that when women are empowered with financial education and life skills, incredible transformations begin. Ruwanthika Kumari Thilini is one shining example. Her inspiring journey from uncertainty to growth is a reminder that with the right tools and support, dreams can become a reality.

Originally from Sri Lanka, Ruwanthika worked as a preschool teacher before making the courageous decision to move to Singapore. Her family had run a small seafood restaurant, but when it closed, they faced financial difficulties. Wanting to support them, she took a leap of faith to work overseas and build a better future.

Arriving in Singapore, Ruwanthika faced the challenges many first-time migrant workers face. She was unfamiliar with the working environment and struggled with English. Her turning point came when her employer, believing in her potential, introduced her to Aidha. She enrolled in our financial education and life skills programmes, setting in motion a whole new chapter in her life.

Through Aidha’s
money management and computer skills course, Ruwanthika gained practical knowledge and a powerful mindset shift. She learned how to manage her salary, set financial goals, and build confidence in her decisions. For her, it wasn’t just about saving money – it was about creating a plan for her future.

The impact of those lessons reached far beyond the classroom. “Aidha helped me grow,” she reflects. “Now I feel happier, more confident, and more focused, especially in my job. Communication is such an important part of my work, and now I really understand how to approach things with the right mindset.”

Wrapped in the warmth of an uplifting sisterhood, she also discovered more than just learning – she found lasting friendships at Aidha. Ruwanthika and her classmates shared stories, lifted each other’s dreams, and filled her Sundays with joy and connection.

With the stability she’s gained, she’s been able to support her family more effectively, and even started a small rental business in her hometown. She bought and renovated a two-story house, transforming the first floor, which is now rented out, and is currently completing the second floor.

But that’s just the beginning! Ruwanthika has her sights set on expanding her business. She dreams of purchasing more land and investing in plantation farming, including crops like tea, coconut, and cinnamon. It’s a big vision, but she’s taking confident steps toward it, backed by smart planning, financial discipline, and strong self-belief.

“Life is not always smooth, but I feel better now. I have confidence, a growth mindset, and I’m ready to face challenges.”

When asked for advice, she keeps it simple and sincere: start with a budget, keep learning, and always dream big! Ruwanthika’s story is proof that empowered women build stronger communities, and that the journey to change begins with one step – or one class.
