aidha’s entrepreneurship course off and running

As we move into December 2006, the student enrolled in aidha’s entrepreneurship course will be able to catch their breath at last. After the sixth session of this intensive twelve session course, aidha will take a brief respite, allowing all the faculty, assistants, and students to enjoy the holiday.

This course, the first introduced by aidha, was launched on 17 September 2006 with an enrollment of twenty-four. Sarah Mavrinac, aidha’s president and the designer of this first featured course, explained that for this first ‘trial’ run of the course, marketing and publicity was kept to a minimum. “We looked forward to an enrollment of perhaps ten women. Word of mouth was our only recruitment tool. I must say we were surprised and delighted when our turnout reached a full two dozen. The enrollment and the students’ commitment are testament to the vital interest our students have in building new opportunities for themselves. They are an inspiration to us at aidha.â€

These dedicated students, the ‘founders’ of aidha’s student body, invest three hours every alternate Sunday – and countless hours in between – to gain mastery of small business management techniques. The subjects covered in the course range from basic supply and demand to marketing, risk management, basic record keeping, and costing. Also included in the course’s first module were intensive sessions on business idea development and personal skills assessment.
